Asfoor & Khatib Trading Co. was established in 1980, and started in the wholesale segment of the ready-wear garment industry. Over the years AKT grew into the largest wholesaler of ready-wear garments in the Middle East region.

Throughout the 1990's AKT slowly strengthened its financial viability and adopted a strategy of diversification and entered the food and beverage industry, and also increased its presence in the retail market by opening up three more department stores under Al-Jawhara Center brand. Most recently, AKT Group has shifted towards the franchise market by signing agreements with food and beverage and clothing franchises.
